Visiting Scholars
The Nanovic Institute offers scholars from Europe the opportunity to spend a semester or summer research leave at Notre Dame.
Two research and teaching positions are available during each semester of the academic year (August-December, January-May). Shorter, month-long research leaves are available during the summer months (June-August).
Openings are limited. The Institute will prefer applications from younger tenure-track faculty at institutions in its Catholic Universities Partnership, but it welcomes inquiries from all European universities.
Adams Fellows
The Patrick and Angela Adams Fellowship for Catholic Higher Education in Post-Communist Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union brings promising scholars and administrators from Catholic universities in post-communist Eastern Europe and the areas of the former Soviet Union to the Nanovic Institute for European Studies. The fellowship's goal is to provide these individuals with experiences at Notre Dame that will ensure their success as the future leaders of their region's Catholic universities.
The Nanovic Institute welcomes these scholars, who are affiliated with our Catholic Universities Partnership institutions, for semester-long stays during the fall or spring semesters or for one-month stays during the summer break. Their scholarly work matches one of the Institute's research areas, and may also connect with the “Faith and Freedom” and “Humanities and Policy” research initiatives.
Information on eligibility and the application process for this program is available on the visiting scholars program page.
Distinguished U.S.-Italian Fulbright Scholars
During the spring semester (only), the Nanovic Institute collaborates with the Center for Italian Studies and the College of Arts and Letters to host an Italian Fulbright scholar at Notre Dame. Italian Fulbright scholars may offer graduate and upper-level undergraduate courses in any number of Departments in the College of Arts and Letters including Classics, English, History, Art History, Philosophy, Romance Languages and Literatures, and Theology. Courses must be proposed and are subject to approval by the department in which they would be offered. Guidelines and application information are available at the University of Trento – Italy and the U.S.-Italy Fulbright Commission.
