Magdalena Smolén-Wawrzusiszyn, Ph.D. is associate professor and Chair of the Department of Polish Language at John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (KUL), where she is also director of the Institute of Linguistics. Professor Smolén-Wawrzusiszyn is also the coordinator of curriculum for Chinese students of Polish philology at KUL, a member of the editorial committee of Roczniki Humanistyczne KUL, Vol. 10, and chair of the Faculty Commission for foreign language exams at Ph.D. studies. She is a linguist with research interests in the areas of Polish philology, marketing discourse, and communications. Her most recent publications include A Bilingual Textbook of Communication for the Emergency Services in the Polish-Slovak Borderland (2016, co-edited with Anna Majewska-Wójcik, Anita Račáková and Gabriela Olchowa) and Polskie dyskursy marketingu. Perspektywa lingwistyczna (Polish Marketing Discourse: the Linguistic Approach) (2018).  

In addition to her position as a visiting scholar at the Nanovic Institute, Smolén-Wawrzusiszyn is also the Kosciuszko Foundation Fellow in the Kosciuszko Foundation Exchange Program to the United States for 2021-2022.
