Dmitri Sherengovsky received his higher education at Ivan Franko National University in Lviv, specialising in the field of International Relations, Diplomatic and Consular Service. He defended his PhD degree in the field of Political Problems of International Systems and Global Development. His PhD thesis was entitled “Conflict causing factors in modern international systems."

Director Shrengovsky took part in internships and training at the universities of Bamberg (Germany), Wuerzburg (Germany), Viadrina European University (Germany), the Free University of Berlin (Germany). He is a former guest researcher at the Nanovic Institute for European Studies and former national consultant at UNDP-Ukraine for the development of online education for business on Sustainable Development Goals in 2019-2020. During his time at Notre Dame, he worked on a project entitled "Conflict Transformation in Political Theory: Practices and approaches for Ukrainian case." He is a member of the Midwest Political Science Association (USA), OSCE Research Network, and the International Association of the Humanities (MAG-IAN).
