Born in 1963 in Greven, Germany, Prof. Dr. Marx Friedhelm studied German Literature and Theology at the University of Tübingen until 1986. he studied at the University of Virginia until 1987, when he moved back to Germany to finish and sit for his examinations at the University of Bonn in 1990. From 1990 until 1994, Professor Friedhelm served as a Researcher at the Department of Foreign Languages ​​and Literatures at the University of Wuppertal. His Ph.D. thesis was delivered in 1994 on the novels of Goethe and Wieland. While serving as an Assistant Professor at the University of Wuppertal, Professor Friedhelm came to the University of Notre Dame as a Max Kade visiting scholar. Professor Friedhelm has been at the University of Bamberg since 2004, where he teaches courses on Modern German literature.
