Fall 2023

Europe Through Film

This fall, the Nanovic Institute for European Studies focuses on four recent films that envision new European realities from very different perspectives. Nanovic Faculty Fellow Jim Collins, professor in the department of film, television, and theatre and concurrent professor in English, created a class and film series that details how we talk about the definition of "European art film" as an alternative to Hollywood filmmaking in terms of stylistic practice, political content, business models, and cultural prestige. A guest speaker specializing in the national culture will introduce each film and co-lead the discussion after the screening.
