The Notre Dame Berlin Seminar

(part of a series)

Location: Berlin, Germany

The Department of German and Russian Languages and Literatures at the University of Notre Dame in partnership with the University of Georgia invites faculty and advanced graduate students to participate in this distinctive seminar series, now in its third summer. Under the direction of William Donahue (University of Notre Dame) and Martin Kagel (University of Georgia), the Notre Dame Berlin Seminar brings American scholars of German literary and cultural studies together with experts and leading figures of Germany’s literary scene.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage personally with representatives from different areas of Germany’s vibrant literary field. The seminar also includes a number of site visits, such as to the national broadcast studios of the Deutschland Radio, the successful Berlin publishing house Matthes & Seitz, the editorial offices of the Tagesspiegel, a model neighborhood book store focused entirely on crime fiction, the offices of Germany’s top audio book publisher, and the Literarische Colloquium, a large villa on the outskirts of Berlin, that once was a private residence and now serves as a residential center for writers and translators.
