Now in its third year, the "Practicing Resilience — Preparing for Recovery" summer school for undergraduate students continues in 2024.
The summer school, which will last 11 days, is organized by the Catholic University of Croatia in partnership with the Nanovic Institute for European Studies, Ukrainian Catholic University, and the Catholic Universities Partnership.
This program grew out of many Catholic universities' desire to show solidarity and offer friendship and support for Ukrainians after the full-scale invasion by Russia began in 2022. In addition to exploring resilience and recovery with Ukrainian students, another goal of the program is also to connect students from Catholic universities such as the University of Notre Dame (United States), John Paul II Catholic University of Lubin (Poland), Catholic University in Ružomberok (Slovakia), Pázmány Péter Catholic University (Hungary), Ukrainian Catholic University (Ukraine), Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani Catholic University (Georgia), and Croatian Catholic University (Croatia).
Some of the questions that this year’s program will try to answer are:
- Are there universal approaches to the return of public life to a state of peace?
- What are the characteristics of the transition period and how achieve the sustainability of social development in the post-war period?
- What can be learned from successful and unsuccessful examples of post-war reconstruction in different countries?
- What lessons about responding to trauma, and possible paths for new beginnings in the social and political context of post-war recovery can be learned from examples of neighboring countries, including the history of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina?
