Location: 1050 Jenkins Nanovic Halls (View on map )

As a way to commemorate two years since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Nanovic Institute will host a screening of a short (approximately 30-minute) film entitled “There will be no lessons today and tomorrow.” This film was produced by Liudmyla Batalova, a graduate of Ukrainian Catholic University.

After a short introduction, the film will be screened in full, followed by a hybrid discussion with Batalova and other invited panelists.

The film's premise is that:

“Nine pupils at a school in Chernihiv have been preparing for their dream graduation since the beginning of the 2021 academic year: they sew dresses and learn the waltz. But the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine interrupts their plans. Teenagers live in basements with their families, stand in long lines for water and bread, and try to leave the city under fire. Chernihiv is under siege for one month, one week, and one day. This time changes young people, but they continue to dream of life and the graduation waltz.”

Batalova, fellow producer Iryna Stepaniak, and filmmaker Sashko Brama created this moving piece to help the international community understand the plight of teenagers and children caught in the ongoing war.

Lunch will be available approximately 30 minutes before the event, while supplies last.

All Notre Dame students, faculty, and staff, as well as interested members of the community, are warmly invited to join.
