Book Talk and Exhibit: Victoria Lomasko "Other Russias"

-

Location: 200 Riley Hall

Please join us on Thursday, November 5th for Victoria Lomasko’s talk and exhibit on her book, Other Russias.

In a time when conversations about Russia are dominated by the menacing figure of President Vladimir Putin, the work of artist and graphic journalist Victoria Lomasko provides a crucial window into aspects of the country that Americans -- and even many Russians -- know little about. Her work is notable for its groundbreaking portrayal of marginalized populations, such as rural elementary school students, sex workers, victims of human trafficking, and teenagers at juvenile prisons. Most famously, she also documented the trial of Pussy Riot. Through her graphic journalism, Lomasko gives voice to the voiceless in contemporary Russian society, and the recent English translation of her work, Other Russias, has served the crucial role of bringing these voices to the Anglophone world.

Sponsored by the Nanovic Institute, ISLA, and the Department of German and Russian Languages and Literatures.
