As the situation continues to develop surrounding COVID-19, the Nanovic Institute for European Studies shares the following update regarding grant programs for University of Notre Dame students:

The Nanovic Institute adheres to University of Notre Dame guidelines regarding travel restrictions and advice in light of the developing Coronavirus outbreak. Please see coronavirus.nd.edu for the most current University policies.

The University has "prohibited all University-reimbursed travel effective immediately, until April 13th." This includes university-sponsored independent travelers (e.g. grant recipients), as well as study abroad students. Grant recipients should have already received an email with additional details.

For All Students Traveling Abroad

The University has asked that all students depart from abroad program locations on or before Monday, March 16. If your current travel itinerary has you leaving your country by Monday, March 16th, there is no need to reschedule.

If your current travel itinerary does not have you leaving your country by Monday, March 16th, and you did not arrange your flights through Anthony Travel, the Nanovic Institute asks that you revise your flights; we will cover reasonable additional expenses you incur in order to adhere to University policy and return to the United States. If you made travel arrangements through Anthony Travel, please contact them with any questions about travel arrangements at NDCampusTravel@anthtonytravel.com or 574-631-7080.

For additional information, frequently asked questions, and an archive of past university communications, please see coronavirus.nd.edu. If you are unable to find an answer to a particular question, please use the submit a question form on coronavirus.nd.edu or contact Notre Dame International at ndintl@nd.edu or 574-631-1138. Please know that the Nanovic Institute’s staff particularly keeps the grant recipients in our thoughts and prayers.

For all students proposing travel to ITALY during summer 2020:

If you are proposing to travel to Italy over the summer for research, or service projects, the Nanovic Institute will evaluate your grant proposal. If your proposal is successful, the Institute will make decisions on the grant only provisionally. The Nanovic Institute will not disperse funds for travel to prohibited areas unless the University lifts the ban on university-sponsored travel.

For all students proposing travel to OTHER COUNTRIES in Europe during summer 2020:

We understand the increased concern regarding travel to other European countries and recommend students monitor the situation closely via the CDC, U.S. State Department, and Notre Dame International. Acceptance dates and disbursement dates will be later than usual for grants in this cycle, to allow for developing changes and additional discernment.

Because of the various uncertainties, all grant awardees for the summer cycle must purchase air travel through Anthony Travel (NDCampusTravel@anthtonytravel.com), and air travel must be Economy Class, not Basic Economy to allow for changes. The Institute will provide additional time for awardees to decide whether to accept grant funding.

For additional questions, please contact Anna Dolezal, Student Programs Assistant Manager at adolezal@nd.edu or by phone (574) 631-8326.
