Taras Dobko is rector at Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, Ukraine, having previously served as associate professor of philosophy and senior vice-rector (since 2008). A leading advocate for the recognition of theology as an academic discipline in post-Soviet Ukraine, Dobko has been part of the Consortium of Ukrainian Universities, promoting university autonomy for the development of civil society. He has also been an advocate and leader within the Catholic Universities Partnership. Dobko served as a visiting scholar with the Nanovic Institute for the 2006-2007, 2010-2011, 2012-2013, and 2021-2022 academic years.

Dobko holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. from the International Academy of Philosophy in the Principality of Liechtenstein. Before earning these degrees, he attended Lviv National University, where he earned a diploma in theoretical mechanics with distinction. 

His research interests include:

  • classical phenomenology and phenomenological epistemology;
  • secularism and secularization in post-modern culture; philosophy of religion;
  • social and philosophical analysis of the concept of rationality in European culture;
  • homo post-sovieticus in Ukrainian context; university autonomy and academic culture.
