Virtual Lecture: “John Paul II's Proposal for Europe: A Celebration of the Past or a Prophetic Invitation for the Future?” with Fr. Michał Paluch, Rector of the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome (Angelicum)

At the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Karol Wojtyła, the talk will remind the framework of the vision for Europe developed by John Paul II during his long pontificate. What has remained from his proposal after 15 years from his death? Is his proposal only a sign of his time or does it still contain its prophetic power today? We should look for the right answers analyzing the structural elements of his teaching which were transmitted by writings and gestures. It turns out that the core invitation of John Paul II's pontificate has its deeply European and universal dimension: we should live our identity as a strong identity but being committed to a process of conversion. Such a spiritual and intellectual project seems to keep its relevance today not only in Europe.

Michał Paluch – a Dominican belonging to the Polish Province. After his initial studies in Cracow, he completed doctoral studies in dogmatic theology in Fribourg (2001). He earned a habilitation in philosophy at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw (2013). He served as Director of the Thomistic Institute in Warsaw (2002-2010), President (rector) of the Dominican House of Studies of the Polish Province in Cracow (2010-2013) and Regent of studies of the Polish Dominican Province (2014-2017). Since 2017 he is the Rector of the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome (Angelicum).
