In recent years, the world has witnessed increasing efforts by national governments to take unilateral actions to protect their interests, sometimes at the expense of partner countries. Brexit and the 2017 U.S. tax reform are but two highly visible examples. This conference brings together legal scholars, accounting scholars, and economists from academia, business, and government to discuss the challenges unilateral actions have on the ability of groups of nations to coordinate their fiscal policies. The conference will culminate with a panel discussion on Saturday afternoon focusing on the broader challenges of multilateral fiscal coordination.
