On April 26-28, 2018, the Nanovic Institute for European Studies and the Kellogg Institute for International Studies will hold a joint conference on one of the most tumultuous and transformative years in the twentieth century: 1968. The conference will be one of the premier events for the Keough School of Global Affairs in its inaugural year. In contrast to many “1968” conferences to be held in the coming year, the Nanovic-Kellogg conference will not focus on the US but instead on the institutes’ primary areas of regional expertise: Latin America and Europe. It will facilitate collaboration among scholars across the university, including faculty in history, the social sciences, the humanities, and the arts. Finally, the conference will directly serve the School’s focus on integral human development, human dignity, and human flourishing. In incorporating scholars from both the conventional areas of strength of other international affairs schools (the social sciences) and frequently neglected fields (the humanities and arts), the conference will affirm the Keough School’s distinctive focus on innovative ways of thinking about the challenges that face humanity.
