Conference - New Paradigms for Revolutionary Studies: French-American Colloquium

-

Location: University of Notre Dame and IU-South Bend campuses

The conference New Paradigms for Revolutionary Studies: French-American Colloquium is organized by Julia Douthwaite (ND) & Lesley Walker (IUSB).

Sponsored as part of an ongoing collaboration by a team of scholars from the Université de Provence, the Université de Toulouse, the University of Notre Dame and Indiana University South Bend, this bilingual, international colloquium will be held on the campuses of IU South Bend and the University of Notre Dame on Monday and Tuesday, October 6-7, 2008. The event is envisioned an opportunity for Francophone and Anglophone scholars in literature, history, and art to collaborate in creating the paradigms that will shape future research in revolutionary studies.

Keynote speaker Professor Lynn Hunt (Eugen Weber Professor of History, University of California Los Angeles) will present an illustrated lecture on “Revolution and Subjectivity: Towards a New Paradigm?” on Monday night, October 6, at 7:00pm in the Snite Museum Annenberg Auditorium. A reception will follow in the Snite Museum lobby.

A special exhibit on the French Revolution in the Snite Museum has been conceived to accompany a variety of " revolutionary" courses being taught in Fall 2008 on the campuses of the University of Notre Dame and IU South Bend, as well as a conference organized by faculty on both campuses. The conference, the art exhibit, and the related display of rare book materials in the Hesburgh Library Department of Special Collections, are all made possible by generous funding from Indiana University and the Nanovic Institute for European Studies at the University of Notre Dame.
