Performance: Juanito Pascual Trio

-

Location: Patricia George Decio Theatre, DeBartolo Performing Arts Center

Virtuoso flamenco guitarist Juanito Pascual is "one of the hottest flamenco guitarists in recent years." (National Public Radio) His sound is an organic blend of traditional and contemporary flamenco, with influences from Jimi Hendrix and the Grateful Dead to Miles Davis and J.S. Bach. Pascual has performed at venues including the Tanglewood Jazz Festival, New York's Lincoln Center, Blue Note Jazz Club, The Panama Jazz Festival, and Madrid's renowned Casa Patas.

Pascual is honored to collaborate in concert with very special guest Jorge Pardo, direct from Madrid. One of the true pioneers and most significant figures in the flamenco jazz genre, Pardo came to prominence through his 20+ years with the revolutionary Paco de Lucia Sextet and work with the legendary singer Camaron de La Isla. He has more than 20 albums under his own name and collaborations over the decades with an extensive list of top flamenco, jazz, and world music artists. Pardo's performed regularly with Chick Corea and has received many prestigious awards and honors, including 2013's "Best European Jazz Musician" from the French Jazz Academy for his Huellas project.

The Juanito Pascual Trio featuring bassist Brad Barrett and percussionist/vocalist Jose Moreno, captivates audiences here and abroad with their masterful musicianship and infectious chemistry. Their release Juanito Pascual New Flamenco Trio was included in NPR critic Milo Miles' list of "Top World Music Albums of 2014."
