Alison Cornish, associate professor of Italian, Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, University of Michigan
Cornish is interested in the intersection of different disciplines in literary works. Her first book, Reading Dante’s Stars, was on Dante’s use of astronomy to poetic effect. Her forthcoming volume, Vernacular Translation in Dante’s Italy: Illiterate Literature, is about the precocious and voluminous phenomenon of vernacular translation in Italy and its bearing on original works of literature.
Cornish will also lead a lunch discussion about her work and about current trends in Dante and medieval Italian literary studies on Wednesday, March 2, 2011.
