Margrit Shildrick, a prestigious European philosopher, and a gender and disability studies scholar, is a Henkels Interdisciplinary Visiting Speaker. She will give the talk “Critical Disability Studies: Challenging the Conventions,” as part of the Notre Dame Disability Studies Forum.
Margrit Shildrick is a Reader in Gender Studies at Queen’s University Belfast, and Adjunct Professor of Critical Disability Studies at York University, Toronto. Her research interests lie in postmodern feminist and cultural theory, bioethics, critical disability studies and body theory. She is the author of Dangerous Discourses of Disability, Subjectivity and Sexuality, Embodying the Monster, and Leaky Bodies and Boundaries, and joint editor of Ethics of the Body with Roxanne Mykitiuk, Feminist Theory and the Body and Vital Signs both with Janet Price. She is also the author of forty-nine articles. Recent publications include work on Derrida, Foucault, Lacan, and Deleuze in relation to disability, and her current research centers on the phenomenology of heart transplantation.
